Things to Consider When Choosing Leather Watch Bands

Leather is one of the most popular materials used for watch band designs, and it’s easy to understand why. Simple, yet elegant, leather gives timepieces a classic look, and a high quality design can easily stand the test of time. But how can you tell a well-made leather band from the rest? Read on to learn what to consider when shopping for leather watch bands.

1. Leather Quality

Always read the fine print! Some leather watch bands will have the letters “PU” hidden in their product descriptions. These letters mean you’re not dealing with a leather watch band at all! PU is a type of synthetic or imitation leather. While some types are convincing, most often you can quickly spot the fake. The difference in price isn’t even that large between a premium leather band and a PU one, so don’t settle for anything less than the best.

2. Hardware Quality

The hardware on a watch band matters! You don’t want to choose something that will tarnish, corrode or rust. Look for watch bands that feature 304 stainless steel, which is impervious to corrosion and won’t turn the way that sterling silver does.

3. Stitching Quality

The best watch straps will have long, wide stitches that ensure durability. If you can’t see the stitchwork in a band, that’s a sign it might not hold up to normal wear and tear.
