Oftentimes in the industry of timekeeping, manufacturers of timepieces will strive to produce ornate watches that are flashy and garish, over-saturated with gimmicks that detract from the overall experience of owning a quality timepiece. BAU Watches strives to do just the opposite by aiming to create valuable timepieces that are rooted in minimalism which has been inspired by Bauhaus’ teaching methods used in their infamous art school that was located in Weimar, Germany.
Bauhaus changed the way art, design and architecture was understood, making it the most influential modern art school of the 20th century. The curriculum put emphasis on functionality through simple, geometric patterns that united both creativity and manufacturing. Taking inspiration from these principles, BAU Watches was born and has changed the way minimalist timepieces are designed.
Their new watch, the BAU 1296, comes with the ability to change out the two straps that are included with every watch to suit your current style: black and brown leather, no tools required. The case of the BAU 1296 is crafted from polished 316L Stainless Steel that will forever retain its shine. It features sapphire scratch-resistant domed crystal as its encasement material for the crisp eggshell white or black dial. Using the reliable Swiss Ronda 5 Series movements, the BAU 1296 couples it with a powerful battery to make for a watch that will outlast years of use, especially considering its 5ATM water-resistance capabilities. With two width options, 36 and 40 millimeters, this watches are slender enough for anyone to wear, any time.
BAU Watches intends to launch its new BAU 1296 timepiece through crowdfunding on Kickstarter beginning on January 12th. For a pledge starting at $145 (€137), you will receive a BAU 1296 watch, any colour or case size, with both easy change straps. BAU Watches are currently in their pre-sale phase, but you can visit their Homepage page to get more information.
