Defakto Building on a Family Tradition

Germany has long been associated with quality craftsmanship and functional design with advanced engineering and technology. Defakto watches continue the German tradition of producing products of exceptional quality and distinctive style. The emphasis on function and sleek form that characterizes Defakto watches has allowed this micro brand to quickly become a trendsetter and a highly-sought collection of timepieces.

Building on a Family Tradition

Defakto was founded in 2009 by Raphael Ickler, a German with a passion for timepieces that was passed down through generations of his family. The Icklers have been in the business of handcrafting watches since 1924 in their workshop in Pforzheim, Germany. Raphael Ickler’s vision was to bring to the market a line of timepieces made the traditional way but that incorporated the latest technologies to truly separate them from other watches on the market, which are often mass produced. The artisan approach to watchmaking sets Defakto apart and allows each timepiece produced by the brand to be truly flawless.

Reviving Minimalistic Modern Design

When creating Defakto watches, Ickler drew inspiration the Bauhaus movement, which grew out of an art school in Germany that operated from 1913 to 1933. The works of Bauhaus architects, sculptors and designers contributed greatly to modern design, infusing minimalism and an emphasis on functionality. Defakto watches perfectly reflect Bauhaus ideals but with an updated look that gives them appeal to the modern male. Each watch is manufactured with great care to proportions and regularity as well as to maintaining a look of minimalism with understated, yet striking dial designs. The current Defakto collection includes three styles: the Defakto Eins, a one hand automatic timepiece; the Defakto Akkord, a two hand automatic timepiece; and the Defkato Detail, a one-hand timepiece powered by quartz movement. The watches come in an array of colors and finishes and retail for between €365 and €625.

We hope to offer you the Defakto watch collection soon.
