Spinnaker Watches are known for their excellent price-performance ratio: Affordable timepieces with unique designs and reliable Japanese automatic movements. The new Hull Diver collection is no different. The Hull Diver is a vintage inspired divers watch with a the typical Spinnaker design language we see on the Croft and the Fleuss as well. But this time it follows a more modern design language with fresh and cold colors; “Arctic Blue” lives up to its name; A deep blue, almost black blue sunray dial, that shines bright icey-blue when the light hits just right, a matte blue of the ceramic bezel and brushed stainless-steel hands, surrounded by a brushed- and polished stainless-steel case gives the watch its character.
The large 42 mm case is matched by strong, but yet proportionally sized hour and minute hands and indices, which makes the watch easy to read. The date-window at the 3 o’clock position is held in dial color, which gives the watch a lot of quality – Not many watches in this price range have this little but important detail, a white date wheel is very common but often breaks with the dark dial color and causes imbalance, but not at the Hull Diver.
Distinctive Pillow Case design
Pillow-shaped watch cases belong to my favorite vintage-design-elements. Furthermore it features a matte a ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal glass, which gives the vintage inspired watch a very modern look. The text printed on the sub dial is in a modern and minimal typography, while the brand name is shown with raised and polished lettering, which gives it a certain presence on the dial, but also merges with the dial.
The crown guards of the Spinnaker Hull Diver follow the distinctive pillow shape of the dial and protects the crown very well. There is enough space between the crown and the bezel, so you find a good grip to screw the crown and set your Spinnaker watch. The bezel offers very good grip due to its height and corrugation, which is important to set it correctly, maybe when you’re wearing gear and gloves while diving.
Reliable Japanese automatic movement
The Hull Diver is driven by the well-known and reliable Seiko NH35, an automatic Japanese movement featuring a 41 hour power reserve, amplitude of 21,600 bph, date adjustment and both hacking and hand-winding. The case back of the watch is finely brushed and engraved.
