Squale diving watches

The name “Squale” has latin origins, which means “shark”, from which the famous shark logo was created. In the beginning, the founder C. von Büren produced high quality watchcases for other watch manufacturers. For this reason, the shark logo became renowned for high quality watchcases. In 1950 the company von Büren S.A. / Montres (Neuchâtel, Switzerland) decided to produce their own watches with their gained know-how. Until today, Squale is producing diving watches with the highest Swiss standards in different variations and specifications.

Technology and design

The watch contains in its durable 316L stainless steel case a Swiss ETA movement, which is known for its precision and durability and is widely used between international watch manufacturers. Particularly striking is the unique design with the distinctive orange minute hand and scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The dial features Super-LumiNova treated luminescent hour markers and hands and a date window at 3 o’clock position.

The watch includes a 60-click bezel with sixty minute markings which is uni-directional. This is an important safety feature, if the diver turns the bezel by accident, his set diving time only can become shorter, not longer. The 1521 series PVD version is coated with a surface coating and finished by the famous weapon manufacturer Beretta. This makes this watch extremely durable.

Those signal colours make the watch easier to read under water. Besides the rubber- or metal strap, the watch can be worn with one of our vintage leather straps too. Giving to the watch a sporty and casual look.

Squale 2002 series – Ready for the deep sea

In the late 60’s, Squale developed a professional deep-sea diving watch that did not need a helium gas escape valve similar to the famous watches such as the Rolex Sea-Dweller or Omega Seamaster Ploprof. The 2002 series offers a wide range of color combinations and has a special stored 3.5mm thick sapphire crystal, which let the helium molecules escape while keeping the case waterproof without the need of a special helium escape valve. It is an extreme-diving watch, which is ready for every diving adventure and waterproof until an unbelievable depth of 1000 meters. Professional saturation divers, who work at unimaginable depths and need to breathe a special mixture of helium and oxygen, use these types of watches.

The human tolerance limit for oxygen is exceeded even before reaching 100 m depth and oxygen becomes toxic to the diver. Helium molecules are among the smallest molecules of all and penetrate even through the seals in the watch.

During decompression, the helium exits the watch very slowly. It creates an overpressure, which must be led out of the watch; otherwise, the glass threatens to jump out. The specially stored sapphire crystal of the 2002 series or a helium valve in other watches can prevents this. Until this day, the watches have been continuously improved and developed and is currently available in 27 different variants.
