Zelos Watches: Pushing the Limits on Timepiece Design

Typically with watchmaking, companies create variations of the same watches over and over, taking their inspiration from successful watches on the market to try and reap as great of a profit as others do. Zelos Watches is different in that regard. Zelos creates luxury watches that might normally fall into those high-dollar, five-figure price ranges, but they do so without the need to drain your bank account. Using totally unique, premium materials, they take a step back from not only the business model of the timepiece industry, but from the look and feel of the watches as well.

The unique materials used in Zelos watches consist of bronze and meteorite. The bronze they use is Marine-grade, most popularly used for ship propellers because of its anti-corrosive properties. There is an oxide layer that naturally forms over the metal and eventually turns that rosy color of bronze into an aged, beautifully rustic brown. The other material they pride themselves on lies in the meteorite they use. A material that is over 4.5 billion years old, meteorite possesses a design that has a pattern completely different to any other hunk of this rock. This pattern is known as Widmanstatten and makes up each dial of the meteorite watches. Formed by millions of years of slow cooling, meteorite cannot be made synthetically. Regardless of the material, each of these 40-millimeter watches features a Swiss automatic movement, a scratch-resistant sapphire glass and a stainless steel or bronze case.

Currently, Zelos watches are being crowdfunded on Kickstarter. At the time of writing, they have reached their goal of $21,340, raising a total of $189,830 with 15 days left to go. A minimum pledge of $419 will get you a Zelos watch before they hit the market fully.
