DOXA Watches: Over a Century of Excellence

DOXA may not have the wide renown of some other luxury timepieces, but the brand has been a leading designer and manufacturer of fine watches since 1889. Over the years, the Swiss watchmaker has made a number of landmark designs. Here's a look at just a few: - 1889. George Ducommun founded DOXA watches, offering his artisan crafted timepieces locally at first. Soon, news of his designs spread, and demand for them grew all over the world. - 1908. George Ducommun created an 8-day movement timekeeping system that he received a patent for and has been used by DOXA ever since. Built unlike any other movement system that was developed before it or that was engineered after it, the 8-day movement system is capable of storing up to 8 days worth of power, making for reliable, convenient mechanical watches. - 1911. George Ducommun's 8-day movement timekeeping system is used in instrument panels of race cars. It would become a standard feature in a number of vehicles, including the Bugatti Type 35, which was made from 1924 to 1931. - Modern Day. DOXA automatic Sub watches are worn by Jean-Michel Cousteau on many  of his dives. The watches are also used by military personnel from around the world during deep sea operations. The current DOXA collection includes 13 styles, many of which are available in a number of different models. The watches range in price from $1,500 to $5,000 and are available from authorised retailers worldwide. (Picture by DOXA Watches)
